FAQs
I don’t know how to swim. Our pool also has a seat to allow for rest periods and seated therapeutic exercises. Can I still come to aquatic physical/occupational therapy?
You don't have to know how to swim! You will be standing in approximately 4 feet of warm water.
What do I wear? I don’t have a swimsuit.
You don't have to wear a swimsuit! You can wear shorts and a shirt or whatever you're most comfortable in! We recommend not wearing a white shirt in the pool.
Will my hair get wet?
The back of your neck may get wet, however, only with your permission.
Does my insurance cover aquatic physical/occupational therapy?
Yes! Our office will verify your insurance benefits for aquatic physical therapy prior to your first session.
Why aquatic therapy versus land physical/occupational therapy?
Joints that are painful on land will be less painful in the water. Because of this, you are better able to increase your range of motion, increase your strength, decrease edema and improve your function on land...all with LESS PAIN! A therapeutic pool is warm which allows your muscles to relax and your pain to be decreased. The water is a safe and supportive environment for working on improving balance and coordination. The water allows you to work on posture and walking in a safe environment where you don't have to worry about falling!
